Painting Koi in Watercolor by Lori Andrews

I hope you all have been Well, I've missed it here and you all!

It's a Busy Life!

Got a bit further today, thank goodness Kristas birthday isn't until October. :)

A very dear friend of mine who is not only a wonderful mother, wife, and a very hard working flight attendant along with holding two other part time jobs, and hosts many sorts of parties, but is an avid caregiver to many animals, to name a few, 1 parrot, keets, a bearded dragon, four dogs, a tortoise the size of a small refrigerator, and then all of her beautiful koi and gold fish which she houses in her pond in her backyard asked me a long time ago to paint her a painting of koi.

So with keeping Krista in mind, and how she juggles all the things she does, bouts to Hawaii, Alaska, LA, comes home in the wee hours of the mornings to care for her two children and husband, and then off to glam up at Chanel designing makeovers to people who only dreamed they looked like her, change her babies diapers, feed the animals, then off to another Parenting or teaching meeting, I came up with this. It's a busy life" I felt that the painting looks just like her life, BUSY! I hope to finish it and give it to her by her birthday.

Another friend of mine named Jason is a phenomenal photographer, and he kindly allowed me to use one of his photos for reference, if you want to see some amazing photography you can see them here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/nbwulf

Water Studies - Homework

Last week's art class homework - water studies: Three different bodies of water painted three different ways. The top painting was done with a brush and palette knife, the middle painting was brush only, and my teacher said I could use anything BUT a paintbrush for my third, so I used my fingers and a palette knife. This is on 16" x 20" loose canvas. Couldn't seem to knock out the camera flash glare on the bottom painting ...

Sunflowers in Morning Light

oil on canvas
12 inches by 16 inches

  $189 USD

This is an older painting, created a few years ago when I started investigating still life subjects. Although another artist's photograph was used, this piece inspired me to look around my own home and life for interesting subjects.  It was found during a recent studio inventory, so I thought I would make it available to a new home.

Birdbrain

It is known that birds have tiny little brains - but isn't that because they have tiny little heads? I'll wager that they are no dumber or smarter than any other critter. I'll go even further to suggest that they are pretty smart to keep their distance from most humans.....

In keeping with her name, Birdbrain is very small: 2 1/2" high x 1 3/4" wide. There is a tube affixed to the back for hanging as a pendant or anywhere else. FYI, this piece is #444 in my glaze tests - I seem to be making myself crazy with these little guys! Of course, this number is on the back of the mask, along with my signature.

Traveling Companions

It's always nice to have a friend to travel with - even on a short journey. These two will always be together no matter where they touch down....
The size of this small mask is 3 1/4" high x 2 1/2" wide and there are tubes affixed to the backs of each leaf to facilitate hanging. This piece is a bit unusual since it's a bit deeper than most of my glaze tests. The sides of each face "butterfly" upwards.

See No Evil

Don't you wish it was so easy not to see some things? I made this small mask with the idea in mind of a sort of mental blindfold: one that would screen out the unpleasantries. I've got mine near at hand just in case....

The Whitney Museum has accorded two full floors to Roni Horn’s exhibition of sculpture, drawings and photographs. In places the show is so spaciously installed that her work looks lost.

What makes a good rock photograph is something to ponder, and the show at the Brooklyn Museum offers an excellent opportunity to do so.

Art Review | Urs Fischer: Exploration of Space

The New Museum show of works by sculptor Urs Fischer is elegant and breathtakingly spare, even as it covers a lot of sculptural and installation-art ground.

Art Review | Damián Ortega: How Things Work (or Sometimes Don’t)

The best of Damián Ortega’s show of conceptually driven sculptures and installation at the Institute of Contemporary Art is schematic yet unpredictable, a seductive combination.
